On the occasion of the XVII National Conference of the WCCM in Rome, Father Laurence Freeman received Vania Mercanile as a Benedictine Oblate of the World Community for Christian Meditation. The Ceremony took place during the contemplative Mass he celebrated.
Fr Laurence concelebrated the Nuptial Mass at their wedding in February 2018. Nine oblates from the WCCM oblate community were present for the celebrations. 23 of the 28 New Zealand oblates attended the retreat at the Magnificat Community, Featherston. This year was one of the warmest summers in New Zealand for many years. The temperature was in the high twenties ( 85 degrees fahrenheit) and very humid.The photo was taken on the one morning there was overnight rain which was a welcome relief.
At the North America Oblate retreat oblates from the US, Canada and the Caribbean joined to share their experience of following the Rule in their daily life. Fr Laurence who led the retreat spoke of continuous prayer in a series of talks and commentaries on specific chapters of the Rule. Listen to the talks:
