He was eighty-six. He is survived by his wife, Linda, his four children (Christopher, Lauren, James, and Beth), his grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dr. Mount was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. After he graduated from Queen\u2019s Medical School in 1963, he trained in urology and urologic cancer surgery at both the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. In 1973, after completing a study focused on the unmet needs of the dying, he travelled to St Christopher\u2019s Hospice in London, England. This inspired him to design a similar program in the context of a larger teaching hospital, for which he coined the term Palliative Care. He is a recipient of many honours and honorary degrees, including the Orders of Quebec and Canada, as well as the first Eric M. Flanders Chair in Palliative Care Medicine.
